Job Opportunities with PALS
Program in American Language Studies, Rutgers University, New Brunswick is a unique program within the English Department. It offers intensive English courses to speakers of other languages. The program issues I-20s to students which allows them to obtain an F1 (Full-Time Student) visa. So far, PALS has received students from 80 different countries.
Intensive ESL instruction is organized under four major disciplines: Reading & Writing, Structure, Phonology, & Discussion. The full-time enrollment requires students to study 20 hours a week.
PALS has been growing steadily and a number of new programs have been introduced. PALS is constantly looking for enthusiastic teachers to teach ESL. Almost always, one has to start as an Adjunct. From time to time, the program has openings for full-time positions. To teach with PALS, you need to have a Masters degree in TESL or a M.A. in English/Linguistics/related field with a certificate in TESL or B.A. with major in English with a certificate in TESL and at least 2 years experience teaching ESL, preferably in a foreign country.
