Course Overview

This is a specially designed non-credit, continuing education course and is offered in a blended format – online and face-to-face practicum. All theory modules are delivered online and are followed by a two week long practicum involving observation of classes and teaching activities. This course runs over twelve weeks - ten weeks of online classes and two weeks of practicum. The course has a modular format and ends with an online final exam.

Course Format

  • The course is offered in a blended format – students follow course modules online and participate in a well-structured practicum.
  • ‘E-college’ platform is used for the online delivery.
  • The program runs over one university semester.
  • The students have the flexibility to complete the practicum either at PALS or at another school, approved by PALS.
  • Full academic and technical support is provided. Detailed information will be provided to registered students.
  • A Certificate of Completion will be awarded after ALL course modules and the practicum have been completed successfully.

Course Content

The course will have a modular format and will comprise 8 online modules and practicum. The ollowing modules will be offered: (some minor modifications may be made by the instructor)

  • Technology Walk through & getting Started
  • Module I - Essentials of Second/Foreign Language Pedagogy
  • Module II - Methods & Materials of Teaching EFL
  • Module III - Teaching Receptive Skills - Reading & Listening
  • Module IV - Teaching Productive Skills I - Phonology
  • Module V - Teaching Productive Skills II - Writing
  • Module VI - Teaching Grammar
  • Module VII - Fundamentals of Course Design & Lesson Planning
  • Module VIII - Language Assessment

Practicum -

  • Students are expected to complete a well-structured practicum.
  • The Practicum will be completed in two parts:
    Part I - observing at least two EFL classes (Can be done on the same day)
    Part II – Practice Lesson - Teaching an EFL Class (Half day on campus).
  • A student can take practicum only after completing all modules.

    The Certificate of completion will be awarded only after all the course work and the practicum have been completed successfully.
