Academic Program

The PALS Intensive English Program provides full-time and part-time English language and cultural instruction at eight proficiency levels (ranging from beginners to advanced). The courses are designed to prepare students for entering higher education or for taking on responsibilities as professionals and community members. The intensive program also serves students who need additional skills in English for their personal or professional use; and for members of the academic community, such as visiting scholars or exchange students.

Each year, instruction is delivered in five sessions, each of seven weeks’ duration. Two additional 5 week supplementary sessions are offered during summer. In order to provide competencies in reading, writing, listening and speaking, the Intensive program is designed in modular format covering four major disciplines:

  • Reading/Writing
  • Applied Grammar
  • Phonology/Listening
  • Discussion

Classes generally meet Monday through Friday, from 8:40 AM to 3:00 PM .

Curricula are designed for individual students on the bases of their performance in the Placement Test administered before the start of each seven week session.

A special course TOEFL Preparation is run for advanced students. TOEFL scores determine the admissibility of students to American university for higher education. PALS is also the official test center for the new iBT-TOEFL.

Students can enroll in any session. Students must be at least 17 years of age and should have proof of having completed high school education.
