What are the rules for Reading and Writing classes?

What are the rules for Reading and Writing classes?

All PALS students must take the following Reading and Writing courses in sequence. All Reading and Writing classes are semester classes. Students must reach the designated writing proficiency for each course in order to move to the next level.

In addition to meeting the grading standards for content in the essay, all students also must meet the following standards in their final essay submission to advance to the next level:

  1. Final essay submissions must be beyond a certain number of words or page count at a certain font size.
  2. The number of grammatically correct sentences in the essay must be over a certain percentage. (Effective Fall 2016)

The requirements for each level is outlined below:

If students wish to skip a Reading Writing level, they must provide an official TOEFL iBT/ IELTS writing section score that was issued within the past 3 months that meets the exiting standards listed below:
