Evening ESL Program

Course Offerings

 

• PALS-NB Evening program will offer the following courses:             
- TOEFL Preparation
- GRE Verbal (specially designed for ESL students)
- English Communication I
- English Communication II
- English for Academic Purposes

TOEFL Preparation
This course is designed to prepare students to succeed on the TOEFL test. Students will be taught the content needed and test-taking strategies and given practice exams for evaluation. At the end of this course, students will be able to successfully attempt all components of the TOEFL test in the designated time.

This course is NOT open to PALS - NB Students.

GRE Verbal
This course is exclusively designed to prepare non-native speakers of English for the Graduation Requirement Examination-Verbal section. Students will be taught all the components of the section and test-taking strategies and given practice exams for evaluation. At the end of the course, students will be able successfully attempt all components of the GRE essay within the designated time period.

 

  • English Communications

Students registered for the following courses will be required to take a placement test on the first day of class. Courses will be allocated on the basis of performance in the placement test.


English Communication I

 This course will focus on speaking, listening, reading/writing, and grammar at the beginner to low intermediate levels. At the end of this course, students will be able to communicate and cope with survival situations in both oral and written language.

English Communication II

This course will focus on higher level skills of speaking, listening, reading/writing and grammar. At the end of this class, students will be able to speak English with some confidence and manage routine communication tasks in written and oral English.

English for Academic Purposes

This course is designed to provide oral and written English language skills required for attending institutes of higher learning in the United States.  At the end of this course, students will be able to listen, read, write and speak English fluently.
